India, Seychelles kick off 1st-ever tri-service exercise 'LAMITIYE'
India and Seychelles just kicked off LAMITIYE-2026, the first tri-service edition of the exercise, running March 9-20 at the Seychelles Defense Academy.
For the first time, all three Indian armed forces are involved: Assam Regiment (Army), INS Trikand (Navy), and a C-130J aircraft (Air Force), training alongside the Seychelles Defense Forces.
Lamitiye means "Friendship" in Creole, highlighting a long-standing partnership.
What the exercise is all about
LAMITIYE-2026 is all about teamwork in real-world scenarios: think peacekeeping missions in tricky, semi-urban areas.
The troops are running field exercises, tactical drills, and even trying out new military tech to sharpen their skills against modern threats.
Why it matters
This isn't just a routine drill: it's a big step for India-Seychelles defense ties and supports safer seas in the Indian Ocean.
By working together against issues like piracy and illegal fishing, both countries are showing they're serious about keeping the region secure.
