Indian students top US international student charts (again)

India

Indian students are now the largest group of international students in the US, with enrollment jumping 10% for 2024-25—even as new international student enrollments dip.
This brings the total to over 363,000 Indians studying across American colleges, with a significant portion in STEM fields and a historical concentration in graduate programs, though undergraduate numbers are rising.

Big boost to the US economy

Indian students contributed about $14 billion to the US this year through tuition and living costs—nearly matching China's contribution.
Their presence is especially strong at big universities in Texas, New York, and California.

Changing trends: more undergrads, fewer new grads

Despite more Indians heading to the US overall, new graduate admissions fell by 10%, likely due to visa delays and travel hurdles.
On the flip side, undergraduate enrollments went up by over 11%, showing that interest in a US degree is still going strong.
