India's renewable energy projects risk being cut off, says CERC
India's top power regulator, CERC, just gave a heads-up: renewable energy projects that don't follow key technical standards could actually be disconnected from the grid.
These standards—basically rules for handling sudden voltage changes—are crucial for keeping the power supply stable.
If ignored, it could mean generation losses, frequency dips, and setbacks for India's 2030 clean energy goals.
Why is this happening?
This warning follows repeated rule-breaking by several power generators—so far, only two projects (including one from Adani) are fully following the guidelines.
To fix things, CERC wants urgent meetings with grid operators and is even considering stricter checks or disconnecting non-compliant projects to keep the system safe as India ramps up its green energy push.
