IndiGo cancels 200+ flights: Here's what's up

India

IndiGo, India's biggest airline, suddenly canceled over 200 flights this week, leaving major airports like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad in chaos.
Their on-time performance crashed from 84% in October to just 35% this week.
The main reasons? Not enough crew and new rules that force pilots to rest longer and cut down on night flights.

What's causing the meltdown?

A new set of pilot work-hour rules kicked in last month, making it tough for IndiGo to keep up with its packed schedule.
In November alone, they scrapped over 1,200 flights—most due to crew shortages or these tighter regulations.
Now the aviation regulator (DGCA) is investigating and has called IndiGo's bosses in for answers.
The airline says tech glitches, winter schedule changes, bad weather, and air traffic jams haven't helped either.

Why should you care?

If you're flying soon—or just curious about travel chaos—this is a big deal.
Flight cancelations can mess up plans fast.
Plus, it shows how even huge companies can get tripped up by new rules and staff shortages—something that could hit any industry you care about.
