Indonesia and India nearly set on BrahMos missile deal

India

Indonesia is in advanced stages of negotiations for a deal with India for the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, after Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin visited India this week.
The BrahMos, made by India and Russia together, has already proven itself in action during Operation Sindoor in Pakistan.
The Russian side is understood to have a positive view on the deal, and both countries see this as a step toward stronger defense ties in the Indian Ocean region.

What else is going on?

This possible deal was a big topic at the January 2025 summit between Indian PM Narendra Modi and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, who's eager for more defense tech teamwork with India.
Earlier this year, an Indonesian Navy team toured the BrahMos facility and discussed military strategies with Indian officials.
With India's experience maintaining Sukhoi jets, it could soon become a key support hub for Indonesia as they modernize their forces.
