Kanpur cop's blunt letter to women's panel sparks backlash
India
A senior Kanpur police officer, Yogesh Kumar, sent a letter to UP State Women Commission member Anita Gupta after she visited Barra police station on November 22.
In the letter, Kumar questioned Gupta's authority and said her visits caused "unnecessary disruption," with a line interpreted by some as telling her to "stay within limits."
The wording was widely seen as disrespectful toward a constitutional office-bearer and quickly drew criticism.
Police commissioner steps in
Kanpur Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal admitted the letter "did not reflect the expected decorum" and has now told officers to use polite language with officials and commission members.
He also wants to know why proper channels weren't followed before sending such a direct note.
