Karbi Anglong land clash leaves 2 dead, dozens hurt
On December 24, a land dispute in Assam's West Karbi Anglong turned deadly when clashes broke out between two communities over grazing reserve lands.
The violence left two people dead—one man was killed in a shop fire and another during police firing—and more than 45 injured, including 38 police officers who faced attacks with stones, rods, and even bows and arrows.
Curfew, internet shutdown as protests end after minister talks
The unrest started after police removed three Karbi protesters from the hunger strike site, which led to violence involving attacks on shops and property.
Protesters set fire to shops and targeted the home of a local leader before trying to storm a police station.
Authorities responded with curfews and an internet blackout across the district.
After meeting Assam's Tribal Affairs Minister Ranoj Pegu, protesters ended their hunger strike; talks are planned for December 26 to address the dispute while investigations into the violence continue.
