Karnataka: Father kills pregnant daughter for marrying outside caste

In Dharwad, Karnataka, a 20-year-old woman named Manya Dhoddamani was murdered by her father after she married outside their caste.
Manya, who was six months pregnant, had married Vivekananda Dhoddamani despite threats from her family.
On December 8, 2025, while she was working on a farm, her father and two relatives attacked her with pipes. She died later that night in the hospital.

What happened next

Police have arrested Manya's father and relatives for murder and assault.
The attack also injured Vivekananda's mother and another relative who tried to help.
Earlier this year, police had warned Manya's parents not to interfere in her marriage after the couple moved away for safety following threats from her family.
The investigation is ongoing.
