Karnataka High Court to rule on interim bails in stampede case

India

The Karnataka High Court will announce its decision on Thursday about granting interim bail to those arrested after the tragic stampede outside Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4. The incident happened during a Royal Challengers Bengaluru event and sadly claimed 11 lives. Among those detained are people linked to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and DNA Entertainment Networks.

How the hearing played out

Petitioners say their arrests weren't legal, while the state claims RCB didn't get proper permissions for their event and only told authorities an hour before it started. Officials also blame RCB's social media promotions for drawing an overwhelming crowd—about 3.5-4 lakh people—to a stadium meant for just 33,000. The government has launched investigations, handed the case to CID, and suspended some police officers over safety lapses.
