What's the story

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will hold a meeting with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs on Sunday, marking his first official engagement since his release from Tihar Jail. Announcing the meeting on social media, Kejriwal stated, "11:00am - MLA meeting 1:00pm - press conference at party office, 4:00pm - Road Show - New Delhi Lok Sabha - Moti Nagar 6:00pm - Road Show - West Delhi Lok Sabha - Uttam Nagar. All of you have to come."

Strategy shift

Meeting will take place at the chief minister's house

The meeting will take place at the Chief Minister's house in Civil Lines and will feature discussions about the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Delhi on May 25. On Saturday, the AAP convenor conducted his first roadshow for the Lok Sabha election campaign in the South Delhi constituency. At the rally, he launched scathing attacks on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi wanted to "crush" the AAP.

Resign

Kejriwal's reveals why he didn't resign

He also revealed why he didn't resign after his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the Delhi liquor policy case, despite repeated demands by the BJP. "The chief minister's post is not important for me. I did not step down...because a conspiracy was hatched to force me to resign on a fake case," he said. Kejriwal will have to surrender and go back to jail on June 2. The Supreme Court granted him interim bail on Friday.

Campaign boost

Kejriwal's release expected to boost AAP's campaign

Kejriwal's release is anticipated to invigorate the party's campaign in 20 seats of Delhi and Punjab, which will be voting on May 25 and June 1 respectively during the ongoing Lok Sabha elections 2024. The AAP is currently in power in both these states. A senior AAP leader stated, "He will campaign wherever INDIA bloc parties ask him to and not just in constituencies where AAP candidates are contesting. The entire strategy will now change."
