Kerala: Pet dog bites BLO during voter data collection

India

A Booth Level Officer (BLO) in Kottayam, Kerala, was bitten by a pet dog while delivering forms for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The incident happened in Pakkil after the officer visited a house for voter data collection and the homeowner allegedly let their dog loose.
This door-to-door exercise began on November 4, following an Election Commission announcement of the second phase on October 27.

What's the SIR drive?

Kerala is one of 12 states working to make voter lists more accurate through the SIR drive.
BLOs will visit households up to three times between November 4 and December 4, 2025, to verify details.
The draft rolls go public on December 9, giving people a chance to raise objections before final records are set on February 7, 2026.
