Kerala raises natural rubber support price to ₹250 per kg
Kerala just bumped up its natural rubber support price from ₹200 to ₹250 per kg.
Announced by Chief Minister VD Satheesan during the budget, this move is part of the UDF's promise to help small and marginal farmers deal with unpredictable prices.
It's a big relief for growers, especially small growers, who account for nearly 70% of the State's rubber farming community.
Hike expected to stabilize farmers' incomes
The higher price is expected to give farmers more stable incomes and encourage them to keep tapping even when market rates dip.
Industry leaders say it could also motivate untapped plantations, about 20% to 25%, to get back into production, but they're asking for more steps like replanting old trees and extra incentives for tappers.
Growers' groups are hoping these benefits reach everyone in the sector without restrictions.
