Kolkata college guard arrested in gang-rape case
A security guard at South Kolkata Law College has been arrested in connection with the gang-rape of a first-year law student—making him the fourth person held so far, after a former Trinamool Congress leader and two students.
The incident happened on June 25 and has led to widespread outrage across the country.
Survivor was filling exam form
The guard, Pinaki Banerjee, reportedly ignored the victim's pleas for help during the assault and didn't report it.
The survivor was at college to fill out an exam form when she was forced into the guard room and attacked; medical reports have backed up her account.
The case has triggered political debate—while opposition leaders have slammed campus safety, government officials say they stand firmly with the survivor and are committed to justice.
