Labour unrest looms at Hyundai's Chennai plant
Things are heating up at Hyundai's Chennai plant.
The main workers' union, HMIEU, says it actually represents most employees and isn't happy that the company recognizes a different group (UUHE) for wage talks.
Now, HMIEU is warning they'll be forced to take the protest route if their concerns aren't taken seriously.
TL;DR
HMIEU wants Hyundai to respect its existence
HMIEU claims support from over half the plant's unionized workers and wants a secret ballot to prove it.
They've even gone to court asking for a fair election so everyone gets represented properly.
Meanwhile, Hyundai stands by its chosen union but says it hopes things get resolved soon.
