'Learn Hindi or lose park': BJP councilor's ultimatum to African coach

India

A BJP councilor in east Delhi, Renu Chaudhary, has told an African football coach he must learn Hindi within a month—or risk losing access to the park where he coaches.
In a video that surfaced on December 22, 2025, Chaudhary is seen asking him, "If he does not learn Hindi in the next one month, take the park away from him."
She argued that since he's earning money in India, speaking Hindi should be expected.

Why did this happen?

Chaudhary's demand follows several complaints about the park—like unpaid revenue to the MCD, cleanliness issues, late hours, and staff barriers.
Despite these problems, she made language skills her main condition for keeping the coach on.
She says she'd already offered to pay for his Hindi lessons eight months ago but was ignored.
The incident happened with around 20 African nationals present.

Who is Renu Chaudhary?

Chaudhary represents Patparganj, East Delhi, and was elected in the 2022 MCD polls.
She's defended her stance by saying basic Hindi is important for anyone working locally and insists she tried to help before making things public.
