Leopard injures 7 in Nagpur, 1 critically; rescue operation delayed
A leopard wandered into Shiv Nagar, Nagpur on Wednesday morning and attacked seven people—one is in the ICU with serious injuries.
The animal, likely trying to escape after sunrise, ended up hiding in a narrow space near a house where a cooler was kept, which left the neighborhood shaken.
Rescue faced hurdles and new safety steps announced
Rescue teams rushed in but struggled to sedate the leopard because of tight spaces and poor visibility.
The animal resisted sedation and tried to attack some rescuers, who could have been seriously injured.
To make matters worse, their rescue vehicle broke down while taking the leopard for treatment.
In response, Maharashtra's Forest Minister said goats will be released in forests to help keep leopards away from homes.
Officials also flagged that Nagpur's forest division lacks basic safety gear and rescue equipment.
