Maharashtra records fresh COVID-19 cases and fatality

Maharashtra just logged 59 new COVID-19 cases and one death, pushing this year's totals to 2,228 infections and 32 fatalities.
Most of those who died had other health issues, showing that comorbidities are still a big risk factor.

TL;DR

New cases in several districts

New cases popped up in several districts: Mumbai and Pune each had 13, Chandrapur saw 10, and smaller numbers came from places like Pimpri Chinchwad, Kolhapur, Satara, Nagpur, and others.
Mumbai remains the hardest hit overall with 912 cases so far this year.

Testing and sequencing data

The state has carried out nearly 24,000 COVID-19 tests since January.
Sequencing shows the XFG Omicron subvariant is currently dominant in Maharashtra—alongside some newer strains that are good at dodging immunity but haven't spread widely yet.
