Maharashtra to pause farm loan recovery in over 300 tehsils
After months of heavy rain and flooding, the Maharashtra government is putting farm loan recovery on hold for a year in 347 tehsils across 34 districts.
This move comes as part of a relief package to help farmers who lost crops across 65 lakh hectares, along with homes and livestock.
Relief package includes waiving exam fees for Classes 10,12
Along with the loan pause, the relief package brings some immediate help: exam fees for Classes 10 and 12 are being waived, and electricity bills in affected areas are covered for three months.
Farmers will also get compensation for crop and soil loss—ranging from ₹18,000 to ₹32,500 per hectare, plus extra funds for soil restoration.
While the government says direct aid is the priority, opposition parties are pushing for a full loan waiver, calling the current help not enough.
