Mamata performs Kali Puja at home, shares song for occasion
On Monday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee continued her tradition of over 40 years of personally performing Kali Puja at her Kalighat home in Kolkata.
She led the rituals, cooked bhog (offerings), and welcomed ministers, politicians, and reporters.
Her nephew Abhishek Banerjee joined in with a yagna nearby, while crowds gathered outside to watch the festivities.
Banerjee wished everyone on X
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Banerjee wished everyone for Diwali and Kali Puja, writing, "O Mother, Goddess of light, erase darkness and usher in peace."
She also shared a song she wrote and composed for the occasion, performed by singer Sreeradha Bandopadhyay.
The post added a personal and creative note to the celebrations.
Significance of Kali Puja
Kali Puja—celebrated this year on the new moon night of Kartika—lights up Kolkata with night-long prayers, music, and decorated pandals.
With both Kali Puja and Diwali falling on the same day in 2025, the city buzzed with cultural events and community gatherings, making it a vibrant night for everyone.
