Man kills parents, wife to claim ₹50cr insurance money
Vishal Kumar from Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, has been arrested for allegedly orchestrating the deaths of his parents and wife by staging them as accidents over several years to claim nearly ₹50 crore in insurance payouts, though only about ₹1 crore was actually paid out.
Police grew suspicious after spotting mismatches in accident reports, post-mortem results, and the income Kumar declared.
Each death—his mother's in 2017, his wife's at a later unspecified date, and his father's in March 2024—was made to look like an accident but raised red flags for investigators.
Kumar and his accomplice Satish Kumar were caught
Kumar and his accomplice Satish Kumar were caught after an insurance company flagged multiple suspicious claims: about ₹80 lakh after his mother's death, ₹30 lakh from his wife's policy, and roughly ₹39 crore in claims following his father's passing.
Investigators also found evidence of bribery attempts and discrepancies in identity documents.
So far, insurers have paid out close to ₹1 crore. With Kumar refusing to cooperate or share documents, the investigation is still ongoing and legal proceedings are underway.
