Maoist with ₹17 lakh bounty on her head surrenders
Kamla Sodi, a 30-year-old woman Maoist with a ₹17 lakh reward on her head, surrendered to police in Chhattisgarh this week.
For 14 years, she was involved in recruiting members, spreading propaganda, and planning attacks against security forces across Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh.
Sodi's surrender part of larger trend
Sodi operated under a team led by the MMC zone commander and faced multiple cases related to violent Maoist activities.
Her surrender happened under Chhattisgarh's new policy that offers cash incentives and support to help former insurgents rejoin society.
Officials say better rural infrastructure, ongoing security operations, and community outreach made it easier for people like Sodi to walk away from the movement.
She's part of a bigger trend—nearly 300 Maoists surrendered in the state last month as authorities push to end Naxal violence by March 2026.
