Maoists say they're ready to surrender by February 2026

India

The Communist Party of India (Maoist) has offered to lay down arms and surrender all its cadres by February 15, 2026.
They've reached out to the Chief Ministers of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh with this plan, asking for a pause in anti-Maoist operations so they can contact their comrades and convey the message in accordance with their methodology.
To make sure everyone gets the message—including those deep in remote areas—they want their offer broadcast on radio.

Why does it matter?

This is a big deal because it follows months of heavy losses for the Maoists—several top leaders have been killed in recent months and many more surrendering already.
The government has been ramping up pressure with a deadline set for March 2026 to end Left-wing extremism.
If this mass surrender goes ahead, it could mean way less violence and help hundreds, and potentially thousands, reintegrate into society—potentially marking a real turning point after decades of conflict.
