Meerut man rescued after 4 months trapped in Myanmar trafficking scam
India
Ashish Kumar, a 29-year-old from Meerut, thought he was heading to Thailand for a job interview—but ended up trapped in Myanmar and forced into cyber fraud for four months.
He was finally freed after a Myanmar Army raid on October 20, and returned home on November 18 with help from the Indian Embassy to get him home safely.
How it happened and what's next
Kumar's ordeal began in May when his passport and belongings were taken away after he was transported to Myanmar.
He's now filed an FIR naming several suspects from across India and abroad.
Police say they're working with authorities in Noida, Mumbai, and the Myanmar Embassy to investigate, promising "strict action" against everyone involved.
