MP couple buried newborn alive to avoid 2-child policy penalty
A government school teacher and his wife in Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh, buried their newborn son alive because he was afraid of losing his job due to the state's strict two-child policy for government employees.
Thankfully, villagers heard the baby's cries and rescued him on September 26.
The couple, Bablu Dandolia and Rajkumari, was arrested soon after.
Attempts to hide 3rd child from official records
Police later revealed the couple already had three children—aged 11, 7, and 4—and had tried to hide their third child from official records.
After video evidence surfaced, charges against them were upgraded from abandonment to attempted murder.
This incident highlights how intense job-related policies can push people to desperate actions; Madhya Pradesh has reportedly topped infant abandonment cases for the fourth consecutive year, according to NCRB data.
