Mumbai: FIR filed against protest leaders in train services halt
A recent railway workers' protest in Mumbai took a tragic turn when two people—a 19-year-old girl and a 68-year-old man—died after passengers, stranded by suspended train services, tried to walk along the tracks near Sandhurst Road station.
The Government Railway Police have now filed an FIR against protest leaders SK Dubey, Vivek Sisodia, and around 30-40 members of the Central Railway Mazdoor Sangh for disrupting operations on November 6.
Tension escalated into a full-blown protest
The protest was part of ongoing tensions between railway staff and officials following an earlier fatal accident in June.
Things escalated when demonstrators blocked key areas at the station, halting trains for about an hour and leading to confusion and disruption.
Police have charged the organizers under several sections of local law.
With emotions running high on both sides, relations between officials and workers are now even more strained.
