Mumbai locals are getting AC coaches with metro-style doors
India
Big changes are coming to Mumbai's local trains—soon, you'll be able to ride in air-conditioned coaches with closed doors, just like the metro.
Announced by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday, November 24, this upgrade is all about making daily commutes safer and more comfortable for nearly 9 million people, without raising second-class fares.
More cool trains on the way
Indian Railways is set to add 268 new AC local trains, which can be mixed and matched into longer or shorter trains based on demand.
Central Railway has already bumped up weekday AC services.
Upgrades beyond just AC
The Mumbai Urban Transport Project is also working on expanding train lines and revamping busy stations like CSMT.
