Mumbai steps up with Stage 4 anti-pollution plan

India

Mumbai's air quality has been rough lately, especially in spots like Mazgaon, so the city's BMC has decided to implement Stage 4 of its Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in specific areas.
Even though the overall AQI sits at a moderate 173, certain neighborhoods have been hit much harder, pushing officials to take stronger action.

What's BMC actually doing?

BMC has sent out 450 junior engineers to keep an eye on pollution from things like garbage burning and construction dust.
Construction sites in areas like Mulund, Colaba, Nariman Point, Cuffe Parade, and Navy Nagar are getting notices if they ignore dust rules.
Local polluters face fines and tighter monitoring now.
Experts say post-monsoon weather is making it tougher by trapping pollutants—so these new steps are aimed at providing quick relief while working toward cleaner air for everyone.
