Mumbai's Orange Gate-Marine Drive tunnel to be completed by 2028
Big changes are coming to Mumbai's commute! The city is getting a nearly 10km twin-tunnel—connecting the Eastern Freeway straight to the Coastal Road—with CM Devendra Fadnavis launching the Tunnel Boring Machine for the project.
Set to finish by December 2028, this tunnel will run beneath 700 properties and feature smart ventilation plus AI-powered traffic systems for safer, smoother rides.
What else is new?
Work has also begun on a 13.9km elevated freeway that'll slash travel time between South Mumbai and Thane to just 25-30 minutes.
It'll link up spots like Mulund and Ghatkopar, merging with other major roads for speedy, uninterrupted trips.
Plus, they're making it greener: over 4,000 new trees will be planted along the route while preserving existing ones.
