Navi Mumbai programmer self-isolates for 3 years
Anoop Kumar Nair, 55, was found living completely alone in his Navi Mumbai flat for over three years.
Social workers from the Social and Evangelical Association for Love (SEAL) discovered him after a distress call—his apartment was filled with garbage and missing most furniture.
Nair hadn't seen anyone in all that time.
Withdrawal from everyone after brother's suicide
Nair's isolation started after losing both parents and his brother, with his brother's death being a suicide, which led him to withdraw from everyone.
He survived on online food deliveries and barely interacted with neighbors, who only helped with basic chores like taking out trash.
Experts say he's been struggling with grief and depression.
He's now getting medical and psychological care
He's now getting medical and psychological care at SEAL's Ashram in Panvel, recovering from a serious leg infection.
SEAL says cases like this highlight how easily vulnerable people can slip through the cracks in big cities if no one checks in on them.
