'I'm going far away': Another NEET aspirant dies by suicide
What's the story
A 22-year-old student preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) was found dead in Sikar, Rajasthan, on Monday. This is the second such incident in the city within a month. The student, who hailed from Jhunjhunu, was scheduled to take the NEET retest on June 21, the third attempt for him. A suicide note was recovered from the spot, which allegedly read, "I am going far away. I do not know where I am going. Sorry!"
Exam controversy
NEET exam rescheduled after paper leak
The National Testing Agency (NTA) had canceled the NEET (Undergraduate) 2026 on May 12 after a question paper leak. The exam was rescheduled for June 21 after central agencies confirmed that the paper was compromised. Officials said questions were leaked on some phones as early as May 1, two days before the exam. This incident marked the second time in two years that NEET-UG faced scrutiny, leading the NTA to refer the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Tragic discovery
Student was under mental stress, says police
Rajesh Kumar Budania, a Rajasthan Police officer, confirmed that the student was found dead at a rented flat in Sikar. The accommodation was rented by his father, who works in Mumbai, to facilitate his children's education. On Monday morning, the student returned to Sikar after dropping off his mother at their native village. His siblings discovered him hanging when they returned home later that day.
Note discovered
Second such incident
The police suspect that the student was under mental stress after the exam was canceled. Earlier last month, a NEET aspirant, Akanksha Chaturvedi, died by suicide in Nagpur after allegedly falling into depression following the exam cancellation. "I was scoring good marks in my first attempt, but now there is no guarantee that I will perform well again. I am sorry, Mom and Dad," she wrote in her suicide note.
