North India hit by freezing fog and travel chaos

India

North India is shivering through a harsh cold wave and thick fog, making daily life tough across several states.
The IMD has put Uttar Pradesh on red alert till December 24, while Delhi just saw its coldest day of the season with a maximum temperature of 16.9°C—over 5 degrees below normal.

Why does this matter?

Travel plans are taking a big hit: over 120 flights were canceled at Delhi airport, and trains are running four to six hours late in many places.
The fog isn't just annoying—it's mixing with pollution, sending Delhi's air quality into the "severe" zone (AQI 410) and raising health risks, especially for kids and older people.

What's next?

The IMD says more dense fog is coming from December 25-27 in Punjab, Haryana, and UP.
Plus, temperatures will keep dropping across north and central India—so bundle up if you're heading out!
