Notorious gangster Thakur in police custody for 2022 murder

Subhash Singh Thakur, a well-known gangster, is now in police custody as part of the probe into the 2022 murder of property developer Samay Chauhan in Virar.
The killing was reportedly a contract job linked to a property dispute with local builder Rahul Dubey.

Where the case stands now

Thakur was brought from Fatehgarh Central Jail in Uttar Pradesh by police, as reported on December 15, 2025.
Police are investigating his role under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA), looking into both the planning and execution of the murder.
Several others have also been arrested—including Dubey, two alleged shooters, and an accomplice—as police piece together how this organized crime unfolded.
