Online deception leads to murder for property
In Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh, Sahiba Bano posed as "Khushi Tiwari" using a fake Aadhaar card to lure Indra Kumar Tiwari (45) from Jabalpur after spotting him on social media.
She convinced him to travel for a staged wedding with help from two accomplices.
Just hours after the ceremony, they killed Tiwari and dumped his body in a drain—planning to use the wedding photos to claim his 18 bighas of land as his widow.
Cops checking if there were other victims tied to plot
Tiwari's body was found on June 6 after his family filed a missing person report.
Police quickly arrested Bano and her associates, including Kushal—who had also been tricked by a similar fake marriage scheme.
Investigators are now checking if there were other victims or property claims tied to this plot, and the case has sparked fresh concerns about online safety and identity scams in matchmaking.
