PM Modi inaugurates new terminal at Guwahati airport

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the new terminal building of Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport in Guwahati, Assam. The state-of-the-art Terminal 2 has been built at a cost of ₹4,000 crore and is expected to handle around 13.1 million passengers annually. During the inauguration ceremony, PM Modi also took a tour of the new facility.

Guwahati airport's new terminal to boost Northeast connectivity
The total cost of the project is ₹5,000 crore, which includes ₹1,000 crore allocated for Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facilities. Officials said that with this new terminal, Guwahati airport aims to be a key aviation hub for Assam and the entire Northeast region. The design of the terminal building was inspired by Assam's rich biodiversity and cultural heritage.

PM Modi unveils statue of Assam's 1st CM
PM Modi also unveiled an 80-foot-tall statue of Gopinath Bardoloi, Assam's first chief minister, outside the airport. The airport is named in his honor. The new terminal building of the "country's first nature-themed airport" covers an area of 140,000 square meters and is expected to significantly improve air travel facilities in the region.
Future plans
PM Modi's vision for Assam's infrastructure
Before the inauguration, PM Modi had shared a sneak peek of the terminal on Friday and called it a "major boost to Assam's infrastructure." He said, "Increased capacity means better 'Ease of Living' and a boost for commerce as well as tourism." On Sunday, PM Modi will pay floral tributes at Shaheed Smarak Sthal dedicated to martyrs of the historic Assam Movement.
