PM Modi to visit Bhutan for hydro project inauguration

India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set for a two-day trip to Bhutan on November 11-12, 2025.
He'll team up with King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk to launch the Punatsangchhu-II Hydroelectric Project and join in celebrations for the 70th birth anniversary of the fourth King of Bhutan, Jigme Singye Wangchuck.
Modi will also meet the Prime Minister of Bhutan, Tshering Tobgay.

Significance of Modi's visit to Bhutan

This visit isn't just about ceremonies—it's a big move for India's "neighborhood first" policy, especially as China tries to grow its influence nearby.
The new hydro project helps both countries with clean energy, while India's ₹10,000 crore support for Bhutan's next five-year plan shows it wants to stay Bhutan's closest partner.
Plus, sharing cultural moments like Buddha relic exhibitions highlights how deep these ties really go.
