PM Modi urges farmers to try '1 acre, 1 season' natural farming

India

At the South India Natural Farming Summit 2025 in Coimbatore, PM Narendra Modi encouraged farmers to start with the "one acre, one season" model of natural farming.
He said this small step could help tackle soil damage and reduce chemical use, adding, "The outcomes from even a small plot can build confidence and inspire larger adoption."

What's behind this push?

Modi highlighted how the National Mission on Natural Farming has already connected lakhs of farmers and boosted support through schemes like Kisan Credit Card and PM-Kisan.
He explained that natural farming—using traditional methods like Panchagavya and mulching—can restore soil health, cut costs, protect biodiversity, and make farms more climate-resilient.

Making it bigger: Support & funding

Modi called for more science-backed support from institutions and urged linking natural farming with agri-startups and Farmer-Producer Organisations to spread the movement.
He also shared that ₹18,000 crore was recently given out under PM-Kisan to help nine crore farmers move toward sustainable practices.
