PMLA court approves bail for Dawood's brother's aide
Israd Sayyed, who worked closely with Iqbal Kaskar (Dawood Ibrahim's younger brother), has been granted bail by a special PMLA court.
Sayyed, Kaskar, and Mumtaz Shaikh were accused of threatening a Thane builder in 2017 and extorting ₹30 lakh cash plus a flat worth ₹60 lakh—using Dawood's name to intimidate him.
The Enforcement Directorate later claimed they laundered nearly ₹79 lakh from this extortion.
Sayyed's lawyers argued he deserved same bail as Kaskar
Sayyed's lawyers pointed out he'd already been acquitted in the original MCOCA case and argued he deserved the same bail as Kaskar.
While prosecutors said Sayyed was directly involved in taking money and property, the judge noted Sayyed had spent significant time in custody.
On June 16, the court decided these factors were enough to grant him bail under PMLA rules.
