On Tuesday, the Uttar Pradesh government in its second cabinet meeting, promised an uninterrupted supply of electricity for 24 hours in district headquarters and 18 hours in rural areas. It was also decided that tehsil headquarters and the Bundelkhand region of the state would get 20 hours of power supply everyday. Surcharges on pending electricity bills of domestic and commercial consumers will be waived.

Chief Minister warns officials against negligent behavior

According to the energy minister of Uttar Pradesh Srikant Sharma, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath instructed officials against any indifference shown in the implementation of orders. Officials were asked to ensure continuous power supply at night and during exam hours for students. Sharma also added that efforts are being undertaken to provide 24-hour power supply to rural areas by October 2018.

    Further details of the provisions

Waiving off the electricity surcharge would cost the state Rs. 3,500cr. The cabinet also decided to allow farmers with outstanding electricity bills of more than Rs. 10,000 to pay the same in 4 instalments. Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal and UP CM Yogi Adityanath will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of the Union Government's 'power for all' project on 14th April in Lucknow.
