Protests erupt over medical college admissions in Jammu
Groups like the VHP and Bajrang Dal are upset about admissions at Shri Mata Vaishnodevi Institute of Medical Excellence, claiming it's unfair that 90% of this year's new students are Muslims from Kashmir.
Some, including BJP MLA R S Pathania, argue that since the college is funded by Vaishno Devi shrine donations, more seats should go to Hindus.
Admissions stuck to NEET rules—No religious quotas allowed
Officials say the admissions were handled strictly by NEET rankings and national guidelines—85% of seats had to go to local residents, and the institute isn't allowed to reserve seats based on religion.
Even though protests have gotten heated, with effigy burnings and calls for a do-over, authorities insist everything followed the rules.
This isn't new: Kashmiri students often top medical lists in Jammu, while many Jammu locals choose engineering instead.
