Pune: 25 people stung by bees at Sinhagad Fort
India
A sudden bee swarm attack at Pune's popular Sinhagad Fort on Sunday left 25 people hurt, with eight needing hospital care.
The incident happened in the afternoon near a historic ammunition storage spot, leading officials to quickly evacuate the fort and close it for the rest of the day.
Thankfully, even those most seriously stung, a toddler and a senior citizen, were said to be out of immediate danger.
Similar incidents at other forts
This is not an isolated event: other forts in the region have seen bee attacks too, like Shivneri Fort in February 2025 and March 2022.
Forest officials say rising temperatures and strong smells can agitate bees around these old sites.
Visitors should be aware that similar incidents have occurred at other forts.
