Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin have reached the Hyderabad House for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit. Putin arrived in New Delhi on Thursday, where he received a warm welcome from Modi. Ahead of the summit, Putin was given a ceremonial welcome and the tri-services Guard of Honor at the forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Summit talks to focus on defense and trade
The summit talks at Hyderabad House are expected to focus on major issues such as defense deals, nuclear energy cooperation, and trade partnerships. The sale of additional Russian S-400s and the acquisition of Su-57s are high on the agenda. Both nations are also expected to sign up to 10 intergovernmental documents and over 15 agreements covering various sectors, including culture, economy, healthcare, media, etc.

Putin's visit to strengthen India-Russia ties
Trade is expected to be a prominent topic in the discussions. Bilateral commerce between the two countries was $68.7 billion in the fiscal year that ended in March, while the aim is to up it to $100 billion by 2030. India is eager to increase pharmaceutical, agricultural, and textile exports to Russia and is seeking the removal of non-tariff barriers. New Delhi is likewise seeking a long-term fertilizer supply from Moscow.

Modi gifts Putin Bhagavad Gita
After the summit, Putin is scheduled to attend a business meeting later in the afternoon before returning to the Rashtrapati Bhavan again to meet President Murmu. He is expected to depart for Moscow at 9:00pm. In a gesture of goodwill, PM Modi on Thursday gifted President Putin a copy of the Bhagavad Gita. He said the teachings of the ancient text "give inspiration to millions across the world."
