Rain alert in Kolkata, south Bengal starting October 2

India

Starting Thursday, October 2, the IMD says Coastal and South Bengal—including Kolkata—should brace for moderate rain in Kolkata and heavy to very heavy rainfall in coastal districts, thanks to a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal.
Expect moderate showers in the city and heavier downpours in places like South 24 Parganas and Purba Medinipur.
This wet spell is set to last until October 6-8, so you might want to keep those umbrellas handy.

Know about the rain forecast

Most districts will see light to moderate rain, but South 24 Parganas, Purba Medinipur, and Paschim Medinipur could get hit with heavy-to-very-heavy rainfall.
Areas like Howrah, North 24 Parganas, Jhargram—and on Friday, October 3, Purulia and Paschim Bardhaman—are also on the list for significant showers.
While Kolkata just got 18.8mm of rain recently, officials say it shouldn't get as intense as the September 23 downpour—but do stay prepared for possible disruptions this week.
