Rajasthan: Students detained for calling district collector 'reel star'

India

Two ABVP student leaders in Barmer were briefly detained after calling District Collector Tina Dabi a "reel star" during a protest against a steep college fee hike.
The comment came up after a teacher referred to Dabi as a role model while talking with students at Multanmal Bhikhchand Chhajed Women's College.

Sit-in at police station, protests over fee hike continue

Following the detentions, students held a sit-in at the police station, saying their voices against the fee hike were being silenced.
Dabi said officials faced misbehavior and called the detentions preventive.
The leaders were released without charges to ease tensions.
Meanwhile, protests are still on as students demand fees go back to normal, with the university vice-chancellor assuring students that the fee hike would be rolled back.
