SC transfers 16 Bihar shelter home abuse cases to CBI

The Supreme Court today directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take over the probe into allegations of physical and sexual abuse of inmates at 16 shelter homes in Bihar. A bench headed by Justice Madan B Lokur transferred the investigation, being conducted by Bihar police, to the CBI while dismissing the state government's request to not transfer the probe. Here's more.

CBI says it is ready to take over the investigation

The court ordered CBI to look into the grave concerns raised by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences' (TISS) report on Bihar shelter-homes. CBI told the bench, also comprising Justices S A Nazeer and Deepak Gupta, that it was ready to take over the investigation.

SC directed Bihar government to assist CBI in the case

The apex court was told that the government agency is already investigating the Muzaffarpur shelter home case, in which it's expected to file a charge sheet by December 7. The court also said CBI officers probing the shelter home cases in Bihar shall not be transferred without its prior permission and directed Bihar government to provide any assistance sought by CBI in this case.
