What's the story

Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's event at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai, the Mumbai Police on Monday detained two people. One of them, Rohan Parekh, allegedly impersonated an official of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) and attempted to enter the venue. Upon inspection, the identity cards found in his possession turned out to be forged. He was accompanied by a bodyguard who was carrying a gun.

3 men used forged docs

In an update, the Mumbai Police clarified that the scare took place on Monday and that it was three people, not two, who used a suspicious government ID card.

"Three men allegedly used...suspicious government ID card and forced their way, armed with a firearm, past mall security into Jio World Plaza. An FIR has been filed at BKC PS under various BNS sections, including impersonation of a public servant and unlawful entry armed with a weapon," it said.

The Mumbai Police further stated that the seized weapon has been found to be licensed.

According to reports, police detained the man after he was found to be moving in a suspicious manner at the event venue.

The Mumbai Crime Branch is now probing the incident to ascertain why the duo tried to enter the venue with a fake ID and a weapon.

PM Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the Global Fintech Fest 2026 at the Jio World Centre later.
