    What's the story

Sikkim is all set to boost its adventure tourism industry with bungee jumping from the Singshore Bridge, the state's highest suspension bridge.

The new initiative will be launched during the ongoing Sikkim Rural Tourism Meet (SRTM) 2025, from March 22-25 in Uttarey, West Sikkim.

Sikkim Minister of Roads and Bridges NB Dahal visited the site last week to inspect safety protocols for the new attraction.

SRTM 2025: A showcase of rural Sikkim

SRTM 2025 will showcase rural Sikkim's culture, encourage sustainable tourism, and provide adventure activities.

Guests reaching Bagdogra Airport will be welcomed with local hospitality in Rholu, South Sikkim, where they will be accommodated in traditional homestays.

Business meetings and cultural programs, along with adventure sports including trekking, mountain biking, and paragliding will be part of the event.

A musical performance by local band Sofiyum is also scheduled.

    Fee details

New tourist entry fee in Sikkim

To promote sustainable tourism and improve infrastructure, Sikkim has announced a nominal ₹50 tourist entry fee under the Sikkim Registration of Tourist Trade Rules 2025.

Effective from March, the fee will be applicable to all visitors, excluding children under five, and those visiting for government-related work.

It will be levied during check-ins at hotels for a maximum duration of 30 days.

    Fund allocation

Funds from entry fees to support tourism sustainability

Proceeds from the new entry fee for tourists will go to the Tourism Sustainability Development (TSD) Fund.

The fund aims to promote the long-term sustainability of tourism in Sikkim.

It funds projects to improve tourism infrastructure, develop road connectivity, maintain cleanliness and waste management, and preserve the natural and cultural heritage of the region.
