Telangana wants to supercharge its power by 2047
Telangana just announced a bold plan: ramp up its electricity generation to 139 gigawatts (GW) by 2047.
Right now, the state's capacity is about 27,769 megawatts (MW), so this is a massive leap.
The goal ties into Telangana's bigger dream of becoming a $3 trillion economy—because more growth means way more energy needs.
Renewables are key, but challenges remain
The plan leans heavily on renewables like solar, wind, and hydro power to cut down on fossil fuels.
But there are some hurdles: Telangana is currently short by 780 MW in solar power and lacks around 4,000 MW in energy storage.
Without smart investments in things like battery storage and pumped hydro projects, the state could fall behind by up to 8,500 MW.
On the bright side, with a wind potential of 25 GW, there's plenty of room for clean energy if they play their cards right.
