Two Naxalites killed in Chhattisgarh's Sukma encounter

India

Security forces in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district shot and killed two Naxal insurgents, including a woman, during an operation on Wednesday. The clash happened near Pusguna village after police got a tip-off about Maoist movement in the area.

Bodies of both insurgents recovered

After the encounter, officers recovered both bodies along with weapons—an INSAS rifle and a 12-bore gun. One of those killed was Baman, a local squad commander with a ₹5 lakh bounty; the woman's identity hasn't been confirmed yet.

Security forces on high alert

This shootout comes just days after an IED blast on June 9 killed Additional SP Akash Rao Girepunje nearby. Since then, security has been ramped up as police work to keep the region safe from further Maoist attacks.
