Uttarakhand to charge green tax on out-of-state vehicles: Here's why
From December, Uttarakhand will start charging a green tax on vehicles coming in from other states.
The goal? Cut down on pollution and keep the state's natural beauty intact.
The daily fee ranges from ₹20 for three-wheelers to up to ₹700 for the heaviest trucks, depending on vehicle type.
Who has to pay and how?
If you're driving a two-wheeler, an electric or CNG vehicle, or anything registered in Uttarakhand—or if you're an ambulance or fire truck—you're off the hook.
Everyone else can choose between paying per day or grabbing a quarterly/annual pass for convenience.
How will the tax be collected?
Uttarakhand is setting up 37 ANPR cameras at its borders to spot out-of-state vehicles as they enter.
The green tax will be auto-deducted from your FASTag wallet through NPCI—so no stopping at toll booths.
The system should be live by late December.
