West Bengal launches free state bus travel for women
From June 1, women in West Bengal can hop on any state-run bus and ride for free.
The Transport Department says this move is all about making travel easier and improving access to transport facilities for women.
Eligible women beneficiaries who apply for it will get a digital smart card with their photo and a QR code to use on the busses.
Apply at BDO or SDO offices
To join, just fill out an application, attach your ID and a recent photo, then drop it off at your local block development officer (BDO) or sub-divisional officer (SDO) office.
The scheme covers both short and long routes.
While you wait for your smart card, you can still ride by showing any valid photo ID, like Aadhaar or voter card, to the conductor, who will hand you a zero-value ticket for the trip.
